Description
41 and 43 Canning Street, along with 42 Catharine Street, are three houses built in the 1820s. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a hipped slate roof. Each house is three storeys tall with a basement, and 41 and 43 have three bays, while 42 Catharine Street has four bays and a two-bay return to Canning Street.
The buildings have a basement lintel band, a first-floor sill band, and a top cornice with a blocking course. The windows are fitted with wedge lintels and are sash style with glazing bars above the ground floor; there is one blind window on the second floor of No 43. The entrances are framed by Ionic aedicules without pediments. Decorative iron railings with heads adorn the areas and steps. Notably, No 41 features an iron balcony on the first floor, while No 42 has first-floor iron balconies as well. Above the entrance of No 42, there is a window with an architrave, frieze, and consoled cornice, along with a four-paned door that has battered upper panels.
