Description
15 and 17 Tontine Road are a pair of cottages built in 1861, although they have been altered since then. They are constructed from coursed rock-faced sandstone with dressed quoins, and feature slate and composition tile roofs, along with brick chimneys. The cottages have a double-depth plan and are single-fronted, each with two storeys and one window on each floor. The doorways are located to the left, featuring rock-faced surrounds; No. 15 has a board door while No. 17 has an altered door. The windows are vertical-rectangular, also with rock-faced surrounds and chamfered reveals. There is a ridge chimney in the center and a more recent brick chimney to the right. These cottages are part of a group that includes Nos. 19-23 to the right, as well as Nos. 25, 27, and 29-31, which adds to their significance.
