Description

This is a public road bridge over a railway, built around 1846 to 1848 for the Liverpool and Bury Railway Company, designed by engineers James and William Thomson. The bridge is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a segmental arch with imposts that extend through the structure. It has broad flanking pilasters, a moulded band, and a parapet made of large blocks with ridged coping. The bridge is part of a group with the east portal of the Up Holland Tunnel, located approximately 250 meters to the west.
