Description
Sandbrook House is likely a late 18th or early 19th century house, altered subsequently. It is a double-depth, double-fronted building constructed with stucco over coursed sandstone rubble, and has a composition tile roof. The house has a double-fronted plan and the entrance is located in the right-hand gable wall. It features three storeys and originally had two windows at the front, though this has been altered. Ground-floor windows are wooden canted bay windows with sashes that lack glazing bars, and are accompanied by pilasters, dentilled friezes, and moulded cornices. The first floor has 12-pane sashed windows without glazing bars, and the second floor has square, 2-light casements, all with moulded architraves. A moulded gutter cornice runs along the top of the building, and there are gable chimneys. The right-hand gable wall has a small, 20th-century gabled porch in the center, with a sashed window to the right; the remaining windows on all floors are blind and finished with cement architraves, some of which are damaged. A ramped screen wall extends to the rear from the right-hand rear corner of the building. The rear of the house has a variety of altered windows. Group Value: The building contributes to the group value of the area.
