Description
These are three cottages located on the east side of the farmyard at Lower Balcony Farm, likely built in the late 18th century and altered over time. They are constructed from coursed squared sandstone and have a composition tile roof. The cottages are arranged in a linear plan, facing the road and backing onto the farmyard. The southernmost cottage is double-fronted, while the others are single-fronted.
Each cottage has two low storeys and features a layout of 2+1+1 windows. The doorways are square-headed, with Nos. 42 and 43 having adjoining entrances, while No. 44 has its doorway positioned between the windows. All doorways have rectangular lintels and board doors. The cottages also feature square two-light casement windows with moulded jambs. There is one chimney located at the ridge.
These cottages form a group with the Lower Balcony Farmhouse, the shippon range to the right, the barn at the north end of the yard, and the coach house/cart shed range on the west side of the yard.
