Description
This is a public road bridge over a railway, built around 1846-1848 for the Liverpool and Bury Railway Company. The engineers responsible for its design were James and William Thomson. The bridge is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a segmental arch with imposts that extend through the structure. It has broad flanking pilasters, a moulded band, and a parapet made of large blocks with ridged coping. The bridge is part of a group that includes the west portal of the Up Holland Tunnel, located approximately 400 meters to the east.
