Description
This barn, located at the north end of the farmyard north of Lower Balcony Farmhouse, is likely from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular five-bay layout oriented on an east-west axis, facing a cobbled yard to the south. It is a tall structure with a large segmental-headed waggon doorway in the center, which is equipped with double board doors and sheltered by a porch with a carried-down roof. There are slit breathers on three levels, and the wall to the left is partly obscured by the attached end of a cart-shed. At the rear, there is a low square-headed waggon doorway with a sliding door. Inside, the barn has 19th-century kingpost roof trusses with princess posts and diagonal bracing. This barn is part of a group that includes Lower Balcony Farmhouse, the coach house, and cart shed range on the west side of the yard, as well as cottages and a shippon range on the east side.
