Description

This barn, located approximately 10 metres north of Lower Farmhouse, dates from the mid-17th century and has likely had early to mid-19th century additions. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and clad in corrugated iron, resting on an uncoursed sandstone rubble plinth. The north end wall is made of uncoursed sandstone rubble, while the south has a roughly dressed red sandstone addition. The roof is covered with plain tiles.

The barn consists of three framed bays arranged roughly north-south, with extensions at both ends. The framing includes square panels extending from the sole plate to the wall plate, and there is a high chamfered plinth on the south side. The main entrance is through a large set of boarded double doors in the center, with a small opening to the right and a small two-light window to the left. There is also a door on the left-hand addition. The right gable end features a two-light segmental-headed loft window and a pair of ground-floor segmental-headed boarded doors.

Inside, the barn has tie-beam trusses with queen struts, and collar and tie-beam trusses at the ends also feature queen struts and v-struts. The southern end includes 18th-century brick nogging. The roof has pairs of staggered purlins and one tier of wind braces. The extra bay to the north was originally a cartshed but has since been enclosed.
