Description

Ambrose Cottage is a farmhouse with an attached barn, now functioning as a single dwelling. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has undergone alterations and renovations, including additions to the rear. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features a slate roof.

The main range consists of two units and has a small projecting gabled wing on the left, with the former barn or shippon attached at the left end. The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows, separated by a three-course band. The doorway is altered and offset to the left, with two vertical-rectangular windows on the ground floor and two square windows above, all of which are now 20th-century casements. A gable chimney is present on the main range.

The low gabled wing on the left, which was the former kitchen, has one square window in the re-entrant side and one 20th-century window on each floor of the gable wall. The former barn or shippon to the left features a large square-headed doorway near the left end, now fitted with French windows, and a three-light window to the right. The rear of the building includes a gabled wing to the main range and a 20th-century addition to the former shippon. Inside, there are two pairs of chamfered axial beams.
