Description

The building is a coach house, stable, and cart shed located on the west side of the farmyard at Lower Balcony Farm. It was likely built in the early to mid 19th century and consists of three sections that have been altered over time. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone and sandstone rubble, topped with stone slate roofs on three levels.

The layout is linear, with the coach house at the southern end, followed by the stable to its right, and the cart shed continuing to the right, where it connects to a barn. The two-storey coach house features a segmental-headed carriage doorway on the ground floor, flanked by square-headed doorways, and a square loading door in the center of the upper floor. The stable, which has two lower storeys, includes a stable door on the right, a circular pitching hole above it, and one window on each floor to the left. The single-storey cart shed has two square-headed openings for carts.

This building forms a group with the Lower Balcony Farmhouse at the south end of the yard, as well as nearby cottages and a shippon range on the east side of the yard, and the barn at the north end.
