Description

Lancashire Lodge is a farmhouse that has been converted into part of a motel. It dates back to the early 17th century and has undergone internal alterations, with large 20th-century extensions that are not of special architectural interest. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone rubble with quoins and features a slate roof. Originally, it had a T-shaped plan with a one-unit main range aligned east-west, a two-unit cross-wing at the east end, and a projecting addition at the west end.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with three windows across the front. There is a gabled porch at the angle with the west wing, which has a Tudor-arched lintel. To the right of the porch, there is a long window that was formerly mullioned, with double-chamfered surrounds and a cavetto-moulded hoodmould; the upper window has been repaired in concrete. Similar windows are found on the front wall of the right wing, which has a carried-down roof. The right-hand return wall features an external chimney stack and a two-light mullioned window on each floor. At the rear of this section, now inside the 20th-century additions, there is a three-light mullioned window with a hoodmould and a corbelled chimney above it. The left wing has later openings.

Inside, there is a wide segmental-arched fireplace in the rear wall, which is now part of a bar. To the left of this fireplace, there is a doorway leading from the remains of a former north porch, featuring a segmental-arched doorway with moulded jambs and an impost on the west side. In the east wing, there are a pair of large beams with quadruple moulding, typical of late 16th or early 17th century design, and a Tudor-arched parlour fireplace. The upper floor is said to have similar beams and a fireplace. Lancashire Lodge forms a group with the gate piers located approximately 100 meters to the southwest.
