Description

The shippon block located on the east side of the farmyard at Lower Balcony Farm is a structure likely dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, although it has been altered over time. It is constructed from coursed and random sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building consists of three bays and has two low storeys.

On the east side, which faces the road, there is a stable door in the first bay, a window in the third bay, and two square loading doors positioned above. The west side, which faces the yard, includes various stable doorways and other openings. Inside, the north bay contains stalls. This shippon forms part of a group with the Lower Balcony Farmhouse, the cottages to the left, the coach house/cart shed range on the west side of the yard, and the barn at the north end.
