Description
Yew Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse with an attached barn, which is not included in the listing, and is now divided into two dwellings. The farmhouse is dated 1679 on the gable of the wing and 1710 on the main range, but it is likely older and has been altered. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble that is painted white, with stone dressings painted black, and features a stone slate roof. The building has a shallow U-plan, consisting of a one-bay hall range and two-bay cross-wings.
The main range is one-and-a-half stories high, while the wings are two stories. The facade has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with a total of three bays. The central doorway has a rectangular lintel and is flanked by 12-pane top-hung casement windows. Above the door is a datestone with raised lettering that reads "C/ TE/ 1710," and above this is a gabled half-dormer window similar to those below. The left wing features a square casement window on each floor, both with raised sills, and the upper window has a floating band above it. The right wing has an oblong window on each floor, with the lower window offset to the left; both have raised sills, thin lintels, and altered glazing. This wing also has a datestone in the gable with raised lettering that reads "C/ II/ 1679."
There is a ridge chimney at the junction with the right wing and a corner chimney on this wing. The rear of the farmhouse has a lean-to outshut attached to the main range and a 20th-century wing. Inside, there are timber-framed partition walls in the wings, although the former lateral partition of the right wing has been removed. The principal-rafter roof truss features curved principals and a superimposed apex.
