Description

Belle Vue Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, formerly dated 1683. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has a lobby-entry plan with one bay on each side of a two-storey gabled porch, and a cross-wing on the left (east). The house is two storeys high, with double-chamfered windows that have mullions and hoods. Most windows are of three lights, except for one five-light window located to the left of the porch on the ground floor. The cross-wing contains a window on each floor towards the left and a three-light stair window with a transom to the right. The first-floor window of the porch has two lights, and below it is a hood enclosing an empty recess that once held a plaque with the initials 'S' I M F S and the date 1683. The outer doorway features a moulded rounded arch and moulded imposts, while the inner doorway has a wooden frame.

Inside, the middle room has two chamfered axial beams and a fireplace bressumer supported on a stone heck. Within the inglenook is a plain stone fireplace from the 19th century. The two ground-floor rooms of the cross-wing are separated by a timber-framed partition, and there is a stone fireplace with a triangular-headed lintel on the upper floor of the cross-wing, which was the former parlour chamber. The roof trusses include tie beams and raking struts. At the time of the survey in February 1987, the house was in a derelict condition, with a significant portion of the roof covering missing. The house was previously known as Scott's Fold, according to the Victoria County History.
