Description

The lychgate to the Church of St James is a structure dated 189[] located on Vicarage Lane in Westhead, Ormskirk. It is built of sandstone, featuring some timber-framing and a hipped stone slate roof. The lychgate has a rectangular plan with high stone side walls topped by the sills of a short timber frame that includes arch-bracing, supporting a wide oversailing hipped roof. Inside, the space is partitioned by a shoulder-high coffin rest. This lychgate is part of a group with the Church of St James.
