Description
The lychgate and wall to the Church of St James the Great is a war memorial structure built in 1844, with the lychgate added around 1920. It is constructed from coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings, featuring timber framing and a stone slate roof. The lychgate has low walls with ashlar coping, topped by a timber-framed superstructure that supports a gabled roof with a cross finial and wooden barge boards. The inner walls display war memorial tablets. On either side, there are low stone walls with ashlar coping and 20th-century iron railings marking the churchyard boundary. This structure is included for its group value with the Church of St James the Great.
