Description

Whitfield Well is a well dating from the mid-18th century that was restored in the 20th century. It is constructed from tooled slabs of gritstone and features an L-shaped series of rectangular troughs that enclose spring water along two sides. Moulded stone dams are positioned at intervals, and there is a stone table above part of the trough on the east side. At the rear of the wells, there are two sections of rubble walling with coping, with the northern section being partly rebuilt. The east side includes a stone buttress, while the third side is bordered by a stone wall from an adjoining industrial yard.
