Description

This building, originally a church constructed in 1811 and later converted into a gymnasium in the 20th century, was designed by Hadfield. It is constructed from coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. The church has a rectangular plan with a polygonal apse.

The exterior is single-storeyed and features a moulded cornice. The street front has a projecting central section distinguished by quoins and an open pediment. Three central round-headed windows are set within moulded surrounds, flanked by single round-headed doorways with double-panel doors. Above the central windows is a Venetian window with margin light glazing and a moulded hood. Above that, a small semicircular opening is contained in a moulded surround, with a bracketed sill. The side elevations each have five windows at both ground and gallery level, all featuring margin light glazing bar sashes. The rear apse includes a bellcote finial above a semicircular opening.

The interior galleries have been removed.
