Description
The drinking trough outside the Norfolk Arms Public House in Glossop was built in 1881. It is made of ashlar millstone grit and features a polished red granite trough. The trough is set on a double chamfered plinth and is designed in the Gothic Revival style. On the north side, the granite trough has rolled edges and is supported by shaped granite legs. It features a chamfered and coped gable with gabled kneelers and a stepped carved finial. The gable is pierced by a moulded and pointed archway that has a hoodmould and carved label stops. An heraldic shield at the apex of the gable on the north side bears the inscription: "PRESENTED BY MRS WOOD OF WHITFIELD HOUSE 1881." The shield on the south side is blank.
