Description
The Former Dollars Public House is a building located at 12 Market Street in Glossop. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is built of diminishing coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof, along with three irregularly set stone stacks.
The exterior consists of three storeys. The front facing Market Street has a moulded cornice and quoins, and features a symmetrical arrangement of three windows. The central doorway has a 20th-century door and overlight, framed by a painted pilaster surround with a flat hood, and is flanked by single 20th-century glazing bar windows. Above this, there are three 16-pane sash windows, and above those, three smaller 16-pane sashes. There is a canted doorway at the right corner that has been blocked, which originally had a moulded pilaster surround and a corbelled lintel.
The right side of the building facing Chapel Street has a regular arrangement of two windows, which are fitted with 20th-century windows, and above them are two 16-pane sashes, followed by two smaller 16-pane sashes. The left side of the building is rendered, and the rear has been significantly altered in the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
