Description

Ottershead Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse, altered subsequently. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a sandstone plinth, sandstone dressings, and a stone slate roof. The farmhouse has a rectangular, double-depth plan with a later service wing to the rear. It is two storeys high with attics, and has a symmetrical facade with two windows. A prominent sandstone plinth of large dressed blocks supports the brickwork, accented by rusticated quoins. The front doorway is framed by a pedimented doorcase with banded pilasters, triglyphs on the lintel, a pulvinated frieze, and a 20th-century panelled door. The windows are 12-pane sash windows with raised sills and wedge lintels. Gable chimneys are present. An altered attic window is on the left gable. The rear wall is constructed of dressed stone blocks up to the first floor level. This rear wall incorporates a lintel with a raised keystone over an altered doorway, and features two three-light sliding sash stair-windows in the centre, along with several altered windows. The farmhouse forms a group with an associated barn located approximately 15 metres to the west.
