Description
A farmhouse, dating from the later 17th century (with a date of 1677 visible inside), enlarged and altered in the 18th century, and recently renovated, alongside a converted barn. The farmhouse is constructed of handmade brown brick on a plinth of coursed sandstone rubble, with a composition tile roof. It has a single-depth, three-bay baffle-entry plan, with a rear addition forming a parallel range to the left half and a lean-to in the angle. The facade has two low storeys and three windows, with a plain doorway between the second and third bays, featuring a rectangular lintel, and three three-light casement windows with 20th-century wooden mullion glazing. A gable chimney is located to the left, and a large square chimney sits on the ridge between the second and third bays, both featuring water tabling and sunk panels decorated with lozenges. The interior contains a large inglenook with stop-chamfered bressummer, a heck with a blocked and concealed peep-hole, and a blocked former fire-window. Stop-chamfered lateral beams are found in the housepart and in the parlour at the lower end, the latter with a forked end. Two chamfered longitudinal beams run through the third bay. A small datestone, re-set into the former rear wall, is decorated with carved details and raised lettering “HW,” and displays the date "1677" written in reverse.
