Description
Lower House Farmhouse is a house dating from the early to mid 19th century, with possible earlier remains. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a roof made of stone slate and artificial stone. The building has a half-H plan and stands two storeys tall. The windows are horizontal sashes with glazing bars, plain reveals, stone sills, and crude hoods. Each of the cross-wings has one bay, and the door, located to the right of centre, has plain reveals and a hood. There are chimneys to the left of both cross-wings. While the external details of the house appear to be from the 19th century and show no evidence of blocked openings, the plan, which includes a single-storey hall and two cross-wings, is of a late medieval type and may suggest an earlier origin for the house. The interior was not accessible during the survey in April 1987.
