Description
This is a barn with an attached cartshed located to the north of Halliwell Farmhouse, dated 1663 on the west side. The building has been altered and part of it has been recently restored. It is constructed from coursed thin sandstone rubble with quoins and features a composition tile roof. The structure is T-shaped, consisting of a four-bay barn oriented on a north-south axis, with an aisle on the east side of the two southern bays and a wing on the west side of the second bay. There is an altered full-height wagon entrance on the east side of the third bay, while a former entrance on the west side has been blocked. The north gable includes various slit breathers on four levels. The datestone on the west side of the first bay has raised lettering that reads "H L A 1663." The large west wing features two segmental-headed arches on the south side and a loft doorway in the west gable.
Inside, the barn has principal-rafter roof trusses with stop-chamfered tie-beams and raked struts, along with two pairs of purlins that have windbraces above. There is an aisle-post to the outshut with angle-braces connecting to the tie-beam and aisle-plate. In the south bay, wooden boskins are arranged laterally, with a feeding passage on the north side. This building forms a group with Halliwell Farmhouse.
