Description
Bank Top House is a house that likely dates from the early 19th century and has been altered. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features a composition tile roof along with ashlar chimneys. The building has an L-plan layout, consisting of a double-depth, double-fronted main range with a rear wing on the right side.
The house is two storeys high with an attic and has five symmetrical windows. The central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and a shallow cornice, featuring a 20th-century board and glazed door. The windows are 12-pane sashed with raised sills and wedge lintels, and those to the left of the doorway have panes painted black. There are ridge and gable chimneys.
On the left side of the building, the return wall has two 12-pane sashes on each floor. The right return wall has one similar window on each floor towards the front, a round-headed 12-pane sashed stair-window with a plain surround and keystone, and a 2-light casement to the right of this. Further back in the wing, there is one large 16-pane unhorned sash on each floor, both with exposed boxes. The south side of the wing features a back doorway with a studded door and similar windows.
Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to have a doglegged staircase with elaborate wrought-iron balusters.
