Description
This barn, located approximately 50 metres north of Anderton Old Hall Farmhouse, likely dates from the early 18th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed from coursed thin sandstone rubble with quoins and features a slate roof with gable copings and kneelers. The barn has a rectangular eight-bay plan and includes a plinth made of squared sandstone. There are slit breathers at the ground floor and small square ones above. A porch with a carried-down roof protects the wagon entrance to the fifth bay, and there are three inserted windows to the left.
The south gable wall contains three doorways, with the centre and right ones blocked, and a loft door above. The north gable has a lean-to addition and a square loading door above it. The upper masonry of this gable features a square datestone with a recessed panel that is either blank or heavily worn. The rear (west) side has modern brick additions. Inside, the barn has two kingpost trusses with Y-struts, other tie-beam trusses, and four pairs of purlins with some straight bracing.
