Description

The western lock of a pair on the northern bypass channel of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Appley Locks is a canal lock, likely built in the early 19th century. The lock chamber is lined with sandstone ashlar and features double gates. There is a footbridge across the western end and a spillway on the northern side, which is also lined with sandstone. Part of this lock is located in Wrightington Civil Parish.
