Description

Barn, now used as offices, a workshop, and a garage, dating from 1689, and subsequently altered and slightly enlarged. Constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with a slate roof, the barn has an L-shaped layout, comprising a 3-bay main range, a 2-storey wing to the west side of the south bay, and an aisled outshut to the other 2 bays. The east front features slit windows for ventilation and a waggon doorway, which has been altered in the 20th century. The west wing has a doorway near the corner and restored 3-light mullioned windows on both floors. A datestone above the doorway bears the inscription “D/ IK/ 1689”. The gable wall of the west wing also features a 3-light mullioned window on each floor, although the ground-floor window is partially obscured by external steps leading to a loft doorway. A modern one-bay addition has been built onto the north end, matching the original style. The interior retains timber-framed partitions and has a kingpost roof truss construction, supported by timber aisle posts.
