Description

No. 2 Worden Lane is an early 18th-century house that has been converted into a doctors' surgery. It is likely built of brick and covered in stucco, with a slate roof featuring one chimney on the ridge and another at the left gable. The house has a single pile plan with an extension at the rear of the right end and stands three storeys tall. The facade is somewhat irregular, divided by bands, and includes five sash windows on the ground floor and four sash windows on the first floor, along with three small casement windows in the attic. The roughly central doorway is framed by a doorcase with pilasters and an open pediment. Inside, the house features extensive timber framing, although the ground floor has been altered. It has ovolo moulded beams on both floors, and the top flight of the original staircase remains, complete with a string, a column newel, turned balusters, and a moulded handrail. The house is said to have been the dower house of the Farington family from Worden Hall.
