Description
The gateway and boundary wall to St. Andrew's churchyard, dated 1827, serves as an entrance and retaining wall. The stone gateway features a wide Tudor arch with moulded and battlemented coping, supported by tall battlemented piers adorned with trefoil panels. The wall extends approximately 100 metres eastward from the foot of the left pier, acting as a retaining boundary for the churchyard, which is about 3 metres higher than the road. It consists of eight courses of stone blocks topped with rounded coping, on which stand stick-baluster iron railings. These railings have Gothic arches at the top and are grouped into sets of 20 by shaped posts with urn finials, each topped with a spiked rail. Incorporated into the wall opposite the end of Sandy Lane is the lintel of a former doorway, which is marked with the date "1827." At the west end, the wall slopes downward and does not have railings.
