Description
This is a row of three cottages, built in two phases, dating from the late 18th century. They are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone and have a stone slate roof featuring two chimneys on the ridge and one on the right gable. Each cottage consists of one bay, with a vertical joint between numbers 221 and 223. All three cottages are two storeys high, with a door on the left side, one window at ground floor level, and two windows above, though there are slight variations among them. Numbers 219 and 221 have stepped triple-light windows at the ground floor only, with top-hung casements in the original vertical openings above. Number 219 is wider and has a small door at the right end, while number 223 features a lower and wider stepped triple-light window at the ground floor and similar windows with narrower lights above. There are similar but altered cottages set back at the left end, and number 217 continues at a slightly receding angle and lower level on the right. The interiors of the cottages were originally one room deep, with number 223 having a vaulted cellar accessed by a deep flight of spiral steps. The end walls are slightly angled, indicating that this row was a later addition.
