Description

Arches Cottage is a pair of houses, likely built around 1600, with later alterations and possibly some earlier features. The building has two storeys. The western house features a four-light mullioned window with an inner hollow chamfer and outer casement moulding. To the right of this window is another window with plain reveals beneath a wider Tudor-arched doorhead. On the first floor, there is a three-light window with hollow-chamfered mullions and a re-used moulded head, alongside a two-light mullioned window from the 19th century. A straight joint on the right suggests that the adjoining house may be older, which also has a single-storey gabled porch.

The eastern house has a window with an architrave on the left and another with a plain stone surround on the right. On the first floor, there are two sashed windows with plain stone surrounds, and to the left, there is a blocked one-light chamfered window. The door, now located within the porch, has a chamfered stone surround. The left-hand gable features a projecting stack, while the chimney between the houses has a cap made from part of an embattled medieval chimney cap. The rear wall has openings with plain reveals, and on the right-hand side of the first floor, there is a chamfered opening with a segmental head, which has been converted into a window.
