Description

Broadhead Farmhouse and the attached barn, formerly known as Big Broadhead Farmhouse, date back to 1770, as indicated by a datestone on the first floor. The farmhouse appears to be two separate constructions, with the barn attached at the right end. It is built from sandstone, with the left half made of random rubble and quoins, while the right half features coursed squared stone and has a slate roof. The building has a double depth, two-bay plan and stands two storeys high.

The main entrance is located slightly left of centre, with a doorway that leads into the house. To the left of the entrance, there is one 16-pane sashed window on each floor, all framed with square punched stone surrounds. On the right side, the second bay includes a horizontal rectangular 3-light casement window at ground level and a 2-light flush mullion window above, both featuring 4-pane sashes. At the right end, a former doorway with a moulded architrave has been converted into a window, with the lower half of the jambs altered. Above this, on the first floor, is the square datestone inscribed A:P 1770.

The farmhouse has chimneys located at the left gable and on the ridge. The barn, which continues at a lower level to the right, is constructed of random rubble and features a wagon entrance in the middle bay with a segmental head made of two delicately curved blocks and a square keystone. There is also a smaller door to the right and a window beyond.
