Description
Higher Crombleholme Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and enlargements made in the 18th century. The building is constructed from random rubble with quoins, and the front and right return walls are covered with scored stucco painted white. It features two-span slate roofs with gable chimneys; the front roof has stone gable copings and kneelers. The farmhouse has a square plan formed by a three-bay 17th-century house with a parallel rear addition.
It is two and a half storeys tall at the front and two storeys at the rear. There is a gabled single-storey porch offset to the right of centre. Above the porch is an altered two-light double-chamfered mullion window that is missing the mullion. To the right, there is a square recessed casement with glazing bars on each floor, and to the left, there is a two-light casement at ground floor level. The left gable wall features two double-chamfered mullion windows with hoodmoulds, including two lights at ground floor left and four lights at first floor right, along with the remains of another four-light window at ground floor containing the lintel of a former door, and a blocked attic light. The right gable wall has a long hoodmould on each floor, including the attic, which has one light patent. The addition has one square window with a square surround on each floor at this end, and a doorway at the other end.
Inside, each gable wall of the front part has a stone fireplace from the 18th century with corbelled jambs. The fireplace in the first bay has a moulded surround and cornice, while the other is plain.
