Description
Berry Wormington Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an enlargement at the rear in the 18th century and further alterations from the 1930s. It is constructed from coursed, squared stone and features a stone slate roof. The main section is two and a half storeys high with three windows, two rooms deep, and includes a one-bay, two-storey extension on the left and a two-bay, single-storey extension on the right, both of which are one room deep.
The front of the farmhouse faces the road and showcases mullioned windows with hollow chamfers and hoodmoulds. On the left, there is a four-light, king-mullion window with an original iron opening light. The central area features a single-storey porch with a plinth, a three-light window without a hoodmould, a hipped roof, a boarded door, and a stone lintel on the left return. To the right, there is another three-light window, with two three-light windows located above. The gables have parapets, and there are ashlar chimneys with cyma caps, along with a gabled dormer that contains a two-light casement window with leaded lights. Set back on the left side is a three-light window on each floor, with a gable that mirrors the front.
Inside, the room on the left features a wide fireplace with stone jambs and a cambered timber lintel. To the left of this fireplace, there is a semi-circular recess with a wooden seat and a nearly semi-circular stone hood, which has a moulded surround and a dummy keystone. The exposed ceiling joists have a slight chamfer. The first floor and attic have boarded doors, and there is a tall, ovolo-moulded window in the spine wall. The front section is the oldest part of the building, which was extended one room deep to the rear in the 18th century, with additional wings and a porch added later.
