Description
The Old Forge is a small house located on Stanton Stanway Road, dating from the early 18th century. It was enlarged in the early 20th century by and for Sir P. Stott. The building is constructed of roughly squared, coursed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has a two-bay, one-and-a-half storey design, with a single room depth and a gable facing the road, along with a rear wing.
On the left side, there is a half-glazed 20th-century door set in a chamfered surround, with a two-light mullioned window on either side, both topped with straight hoodmoulds. Above, there are two gabled stone dormers, each with similar windows. The building has parapet gables at both ends and on the dormers, with gable chimneys that have moulded caps. An extension to the left was rebuilt in 1986 and is not considered of special interest. When inspected in 1986, the house was covered by creeper.
