Description
The war memorial, located in the garden wall of Stanton Court, dates from the 19th century, around 1920, and is likely designed by Sir J.N. Comper for Sir P.S. Stott. It is constructed from ashlar stone and features a bronze plaque. The memorial consists of a gabled blind arch that aligns with the garden wall, featuring a 4-centred head and chamfered arris. Above the arch is a blank shield set in a coped gable, with horizontal feet on either side and bulb-shaped finials at both the apex and base, the latter resting on pedestals adorned with diamonds in relief. Inside the arch, the center is framed by Jacobean-style Ionic pilasters standing on a plinth with a moulded top. The structure includes a cornice and a swept pediment with a moulded edge. The rectangular bronze plaque has eared tops and bottoms with raised lettering. Originally, the archway framed a village pump.
