Description

The Village Cross, located on Stanton High Street, is a medieval structure dating from the 17th century. It is made of ashlar stone and features a square base with a plinth that has nosing all around to form a seat. There are two steps leading up to a square base block that reduces to an octagonal shape. Above this, there is a tall, square shaft with stopped chamfered corners. At the top, there is a tall square block with a sunk panel on the north face, and a sundial with a gnomon on the opposite side. The top of the cross is swept up to a ball finial, which is topped with a cross. This site is also recorded as an ancient monument in Gloucestershire, number 416.
