Description

The Old Bakehouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and further modifications between 1926 and 1927 by and for Sir P. Stott. It is constructed from roughly squared, coursed stone with larger quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has a 'U' plan, is one room deep, and has two and a half storeys, with a wing extending to the rear from the left corner.

The front elevation facing the road has a right wing that is wider than the left. It includes mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and leaded lights, as well as 20th-century metal opening lights. The left wing features a four-light window, while the right return has a three-light window replacing a former doorway. At the rear, there is a four-light window in a recess, with a boarded door located in the corner, accessed by two stone steps and covered by a lean-to roof. The right wing has a three-light window, and above it, the left wing has a three-light window, while the right return has a three-light window without a hoodmould. There is also a three-light window at the back of the recess that rises into a gabled stone dormer, and another four-light window on the right wing.

The gables of the building feature parapets, with the left gable having a ridge chimney with a moulded cap and the right gable having a cross-gablet apex. Additional chimneys are located on the ridge of the right wing and on the cross roof to the right of the front door. Low walls connect the wings at the front, with a central opening approached by four stone steps. The interior has not been inspected.
