Description

The Thomas monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 8 meters south of the south-west corner of the porch at the Church of St Michael and All Angels. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a cyma edge and side rectangular panels that have a moulded edge. The west end is framed with a laurel strip, while the east end displays a sunflower. The ends of the tomb slightly project and are shaped like lyres, with a carved crown above two winged heads on the east side and a skull over a cloud in a semi-circular headed recess on the west side. The plinth is buried, and the lettering, which is weathered, appears to commemorate John Thomas, who died in 1721.
