Description

The Moore monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 5 meters south of the south transept of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. It commemorates John Moore, who died in 1801. The tomb is made of stone and features a flat lid with a moulded edge and indented corners on the long sides. The sides have a projecting center with fielded panels and scalloped corners, along with fluted pilasters set back on each side. The ends of the tomb also have fielded rectangular panels with scalloped corners. The plinth has a moulded top and the entire structure rests on stone paving that originally supported iron railings. There is a later inscription dedicated to Moore's wife, which is written in a mix of upper and lower case lettering, featuring a long 's' and some copperplate scrolling.
