Description
The entrance gateway to Wormington Grange, built around 1826, consists of gate piers, gates, and adjoining walls made of ashlar and wrought iron. The central feature is a pair of double gates, with pedestrian gates on either side. The right side has a square pier with a plinth, a panelled face, a plain string course, and a plain cap, set above a step. To the left is a low wall approximately 9 meters long, featuring a plinth, plain coping, and iron railings with spearhead tops.
The square pier on the right mirrors the first, with a quadrant wall that sets back and a rectangular pier above which is a semi-circular recess with raised edge moulding and an arched head. This pier also has a plain string course with a central projecting block supported by plain corbels. The sides of the pier are plain, and the pedestrian gate features a double 'mid' rail with Greek key decoration, curved St Andrew's cross braces below, and a flat top rail with cresting above.
On the left, there is a square wrought-iron pier for the main gates, adorned with decorative ironwork on both sides, vertical bars, and a moulded cap with a swept head. The double gates have a double centre rail, a curved brace below, a swept top rail, and spearheads on the dog and main bars. The piers, wall, and pedestrian gate on the left mirror those on the right, creating a cohesive design. This entrance gateway forms a group with the lodge nearby.
