Description
The Church of St Eadmer is a church built in 1835 on the site of an earlier chapel, with a restoration and chancel addition completed in 1897. It is constructed of rendered rubble and features a slate roof. The church includes a west tower, a nave, a lower chancel, and a south porch. The tower has a parapet that steps up at the corners and contains two re-used west windows, one above the other, each with two round-headed lights and a mullion. The upper stage of the tower has lancet bell openings. The nave windows are lancets with chamfered stone surrounds and hoods, and there are two short west windows that illuminate the gallery. The nave consists of four bays, with the porch located in the west bay, which has a short window above it to light the gallery. The porch door surround is chamfered and features a pointed head. The chancel has two bays and includes windows on the south side, with the east window consisting of three lights under a pointed head adorned with Perpendicular tracery. Inside, the west gallery is supported by two slim iron columns and has a panelled front. The nave features four bolted king-post trusses, and the pointed chancel arch is plastered. The chancel has an open timber roof with a truss that includes a king post rising from a high arch-braced collar.
