Description

The building known as the barn north of Hoskin's Farmhouse is a farm structure that originally included a house, dating from the mid 17th century, with the remainder likely built in the later 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof, standing two storeys tall.

The left-hand section of the barn was originally a house designed in an end baffle-entry plan, which includes a drip course above the ground-floor windows. This part of the facade collapsed around 1980 and was rebuilt without windows. On the ground floor to the right, there is a blocked 4-light mullioned window, with a similar 2-light window located above it. There is also a blocked doorway on the right, which has a moulded surround, a triangular head, and a lintel inscribed with '165? I:RW'.

To the right of this doorway is the barn area, which features a wide entrance with a segmental arch and plain reveals. There are doorways on both the left and right sides, which are now partly blocked and contain windows; the right-hand doorway has a chamfered surround. Above the left-hand doorway is a pitching hole with plain reveals. The left gable wall of the former house has a blocked mullioned window, with the drip course returning above it. To the left of this window, there are external stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway of 19th-century design.
