SD 51 SE CHORLEY WIGAN LANE

8/75 Gate piers and railings at Wigan Lodge to Duxbury Park extending c.30m either side - of gates.

GV II

Stone gate piers, probably early C19, with iron gates and railings enclosing approach bay. Six massive square-sectioned stone pillars with fluted sides and plain stepped capitals bearing unusual finials of horizontal 2/3 - cylindrical form, fluted over the heads, with moulded circular fares; a pair each side of gate, and one at each end of railings. Low iron gates with horizontally-compressed criss-cross bars, Greek Key margins and ramped top rails, hung on matching iron posts (one with urn finial) linked by short matching railing to the inner of each pair of stone piers; double-tiered boundary railings with fleur-de-lys heads extend in quadrant arcs c.30m to either side to meet road.
