Description
Manor House is a farmhouse dated 1604, located on Anglezarke Moor Road. It has been remodelled and extended in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a slate roof with projecting eaves and a barge-boarded left gable. The layout follows a three-bay baffle-entry plan, with an added rear outshut and a long 19th-century extension.
The house is two storeys high, with a single-storey gabled porch aligned with the ridge chimney at the junction of the first and second bays. The porch has long and short jamb stones at the outer doorway, stone side benches, and an inner door with chamfered jambs. The second bay on the right features a mullion and transom window that currently has 10 lights but was originally 14 lights, with the left end now blocked. The first bay on the left has a similar 10-light window that appears to be a 19th-century copy of the other. The first floor has mullioned windows with 3, 2, and 3 lights, while the third bay has a 19th-century sashed window at the ground floor.
The left gable includes two 2-light mullioned windows at the ground floor and a 4-light window above. There is also a 19th-century gabled porch partially covering the rear corner, featuring a segmental-headed outer doorway and a quoin stone inscribed with "1604," along with another stone marked "RS." The quoins at the front of this gable are inscribed "W S" and "WL 1778." The right gable contains a 2-light mullioned window from 1772, and the rear has a 2-light cavetto-moulded mullion window. The interior of the house has been entirely remodelled.
