Description
Lower Whittlestone Head Farmhouse is a farmhouse, likely built in the late 17th century, which has been converted into a house. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a slate roof with a chimney stack positioned near the left gable. The building has a two-bay baffle-entry plan and stands two low storeys tall.
At the left end of the front, there is a large single-storey gabled porch that has a moulded segmental-headed doorway, which is offset to the left. Above this doorway, there is a small round-headed opening in the gable. To the right of the porch, there are two windows on each floor, all of which have lost their original mullions. The ground floor windows consist of three and two lights, featuring chamfered surrounds and hoodmoulds, but are now fitted with casements that include glazing bars. The upper floor windows have two lights each and have been lengthened downwards.
Additionally, there is a small round-headed window on the first floor of the left return wall, and a hoodmould above an altered ground floor window located at the rear of the first bay. A flat-roofed modern porch has been added to the rear, along with two altered windows above. The interior of the farmhouse has not been inspected.
