Description

Hill Top Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1721, which has been extended and is now used as a house. It is built from coursed sandstone with quoins and features a slate roof with gable chimneys. The layout follows a two-bay baffle entry plan, with a long loomshop extension at the rear and a modern lean-to on the left side. The building has two storeys.

On the left side, a modern gabled porch covers the original doorway, which has been altered to serve as a window. Above the doorway, there is a moulded panel in the lintel inscribed "S H." To the right, both floors feature two stone mullion windows with four and three lights, respectively. The ground floor windows have hoodmoulds, and there are similar windows on the right return and rear walls.

The rear extension consists of three bays and is slightly lower with two storeys. It has multiple-light windows on both sides at ground floor: the west side originally had ten lights with two-light casements at each end, but all other lights are now blocked. The east side also had ten lights but has been altered to include a door in the centre, leaving two lights on the left end and three on the right end. The first floor of this extension includes some flush-mullion windows, mostly with three lights, although one lacks mullions. In the angle with the rear wall on the east side, there is a small gabled porch, and to the right of it is a three-stage stairlight with a round-headed top light.

Inside, the housepart in the first bay retains its original timber structure, featuring an inglenook fireplace with a cambered bressummer supported on a heckpost with a billet-moulded head. The bressummer and two beams jointed onto it have tongue-stopped chamfers.
