Description
Warth Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the late 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 18th century and later. It is constructed of sandstone rubble in watershot coursing, with the topmost courses featuring larger blocks, and has a stone slate roof with a brick chimney on the left gable. The building has a two-bay end-baffle-entry plan, with a stable added on the right side and another addition on the left.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall, except for the left addition, which is single storey. The original part has a high plinth and features a former doorway on the left end that has been altered into a window. To the right, there is a former three-light mullioned window that has been raised and altered into a casement, although the chamfered sill and jambs remain. There is also a mid-level single-light stair window to the right of this, and a window created from an inserted doorway in the second bay. On the first floor, there is a chamfered single-light window above the original door and two two-light recessed mullion windows that are missing their mullions.
To the right, the continuation, formerly a stable, is made of random rubble and has altered openings. The addition on the left, made of similar masonry, features a two-light window with a square flush mullion in the left return wall, along with a door. The rear of the building has ground floor windows with chamfered flush mullions and slab hoodmoulds, consisting of two, two, and three lights (the last lacking mullions), and a lean-to porch. The interior has been altered with partitions removed but retains one large chamfered beam in the former house part and another in the former service end. This farmhouse is an altered example of an unusual and localized type on this plan, with other examples including Morris Farmhouse and Cliff Farmhouse in the same parish.
