Description

Howorth Fold Poultry Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dated 1748 at the first floor and altered over time. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with large quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth, double-fronted plan and stands two storeys high with two windows, creating an almost symmetrical appearance.

The central doorway has a moulded architrave and currently contains a 20th-century wooden doorcase. To the left, there are coupled mullioned windows with three lights each on both floors, featuring square-cut flush mullions. On the right, there is one three-light window on each floor, which likely had similar mullions originally but now contains 20th-century casements. All windows have run-out sills and lintels.

Prominently displayed in the centre of the first floor is a large square carved plaque mounted on moulded brackets, surrounded by an egg-and-dart motif. This plaque features a central urn with a male mask above and a female mask below, along with raised lettering that reads: I I/ C I/ 1748. Additional architectural details include moulded stone gutter brackets, moulded kneelers, and corniced gable chimneys. The rear and interior of the building were not inspected. Howorth Fold Poultry Farmhouse forms a group with Lower Howorth Fold Farmhouse to the south.
