SD83SW HOWORTH ROAD, Burnley Wood 906-1/3/167 (West side) 29/09/77 Howorth Fold Poultry Farmhouse

Farmhouse, now house. Dated 1748 at 1st floor; altered. Coursed sandstone rubble with large quoins, stone slate roof. Double-depth double-fronted plan. 2 storeys and 2 windows, almost symmetrical; with a central doorway which has a moulded architrave (now containing a C20 wooden doorcase); coupled mullioned windows of 3+3 lights on each floor to the left, with square-cut flush mullions, and one 3-light window on each floor to the right, probably formerly with similar mullions but now containing C20 casements, and all these windows with run-out sills and lintels; and in the centre of the 1st floor a large square carved plaque mounted on moulded brackets, with an egg-and-dart surround, a central urn with a male mask above and a female mask below, and raised lettering: I I/ C I/ 1748 Moulded stone gutter brackets, moulded kneelers, and corniced gable chimneys. Rear and INTERIOR not inspected. Forms group with Lower Howorth Fold Farmhouse to the south (qv).
